RecipeOS Privacy Philosophy
RecipeOS is designed as a utility-first application. We do not run third-party advertising networks, sell user profiles to data brokers, or insert marketing trackers into your cooking flow.
1. Information We Collect
We minimize data collection to only what is strictly necessary to provide and improve RecipeOS services:
- Account Information: If you sign in via our authentication provider (Clerk), we receive your primary email address, public profile name, and account ID.
- Recipe & Progress Data: Your saved favorites, completed recipes, skill XP points, custom cooking goals, and pantry inventory.
- Technical Usage Data: Anonymized performance diagnostics, page load times, and feature interaction metrics (if analytics is active).
2. How We Store Your Data
RecipeOS utilizes a local-first data approach for unauthenticated sessions:
Browser LocalStorage
Your shopping list items, cook mode timers, dark/light theme setting, and cooking progress are stored directly on your browser device.
Encrypted Profile Sync
For logged-in users, progress syncs securely to our encrypted backend so you can access your recipes across desktop and mobile devices seamlessly.
3. Third-Party Services & Integrations
We partner with reputable infrastructure providers to operate RecipeOS reliably:
- Clerk Auth: Handles secure authentication, OAuth sign-ins, and session token management.
- Google Cloud Platform: Hosts application code and handles optional AI features (such as Pantry AI image analysis).
- Google Analytics (Optional): Measures aggregate page views without collecting personally identifiable information.
4. Your Data Rights & Control
You retain full control over your data:
- Clear Local Data: You can wipe your local cooking state and shopping list at any time through browser settings or in your RecipeOS profile.
- Export Progress: Request a copy of your saved recipes and progress history in JSON format.
- Account Deletion: Permanently delete your profile and synced recipe data via your profile page settings.
5. Security Measures
RecipeOS enforces HTTPS encryption across all API communications, strictly implements server-side proxying for secret keys, and sanitizes input data to prevent cross-site scripting (XSS) and injection attacks.
